Whether you are trekking for the first time or are an experienced adventurer, the Annapurna Short Trek promises a remarkable experience filled with adventure, serenity, and cultural exploration. The trek is best undertaken during autumn (October to December) or spring (February to May) when the weather is clear and the views are spectacular.
In the beginning, the trek to Annapurna Base Camp (ABC) was done by the local Gurung people and the sheep herders for their economics and for exploring the area. In the 19th century, the Japanese named Ekai Kawaguchi visited the area, and in the mid-twentieth century, some of the climbing expeditions were interested in conquering the peaks rather than just leisure walking. Nepal was introduced to tourism in the 1960s for trekking and promoting the routes to ABC. These days ABC Trek has become more popular due to huge improvements of trails, teahouses, facilities and responsible tourism. Also, now the ABC is more attractive for the history and adventures for the visitors for their lifetime Himalayan experiences.
The Annapurna Base Camp trek is a perfect choice for the natural beauty, cultural richness, and achievable Himalayan adventures in Nepal. This ABC trek offers a beautiful variety of landscapes in a short time of the trek. The trail leads through lush subtropical forests, terraces, villages, and alpine valleys, which are surrounded by towering snow-capped mountains. The other reason for choosing the Annapurna Base Camp trek is the spectacular close-up mountain views, which include Annapurna I, Annapurna South, Machhapuchhre (Fishtail), Hiunchuli and many other surrounded wide-range peaks.
All these views are visible from the base camp. This is a moderate trek, and it doesn't require any technical skills. The ABC trek is suitable for both beginners and experienced trekkers. Along the trail, you will experience the warm hospitality in traditional Gurung, Magar and Chhetri villages. Also, you will stay in a comfortable teahouse on the trek, and they serve all local and continental meals. Our day-by-day itinerary includes one night's stay in Jhinu Danda on the way down from ABC, and it gives you time to enjoy the natural hot spring there. The Annapurna Base Camp Trek is easily accessible from Pokhara and delivers an unforgettable Himalayan adventure experience for a lifetime.
The best time to trek Annapurna Base Camp is during spring (March to May) and autumn (September to November). These months offer stable weather, clear mountain views, and comfortable trekking conditions. During the spring, the trails are filled with blooming rhododendron forests, stable weather, and clear mountain views, making them especially scenic and enjoyable. Autumn is considered the peak season for trekking in Nepal due to its crisp air, blue sky, mild temperatures, and excellent visibility of the Annapurna range, and it offers the clearest panoramic views. Winter (December–February) is ideal if you are looking for fewer crowds, treks and dramatic snowy landscapes. The temperature gets colder at higher elevations and requires proper preparation.
The Annapurna Base Camp Trek is a moderate trek and suitable for trekkers with a reasonable fitness. The trekkers should be prepared for the daily walks of approximately 5 to 7 hours each day over terrain and long ascents and descents on the stairs. The maximum altitude reaches 4,130 metres at Annapurna Base Camp. To enjoy the trek and reduce the risk of fatigue or altitude-related issues, regular cardio workouts, hiking with a backpack and hiking boots, and leg-strength training are highly recommended for a few weeks to months prior to the trek.
Accommodation and food along the Annapurna Base Camp Trek are well-developed. There are plenty of traditional teahouses that provide cozy rooms; typically the rooms are with twin beds, warm blankets, and shared bathroom facilities. They serve hot and freshly prepared meals, including Dal Bhat, as well as noodles, pasta, fried rice, soups, and pancakes. “Our trek to Annapurna base camp was wonderful- the whole trip was organised with incredible care and attention by Sam in Kathmandu. He even took the time to meet up with us both before and after the trek to ensure that everything was in order and we were happy with arrangements. The guide we were given was superb and altered the trek schedule to reflect our pace of walking, while the porter was superb, friendly and caring. Having been trekking with far larger companies in the past, I have to say that the level of service from Above and Beyond surpassed their efforts, something we really appreciated since we were travelling alone and not part of a larger group. Highly recommend talking to Sam if you are thinking of a trip to Nepal.”

“Our Annapurna Base Camp Trek was amazing! The guide knows so many people and knows so much about the area that the experience was not just about one of the best treks in the world, but I felt totally immersed in the villages, the people and the region itself. Sam got us into every kitchen we stopped at so we could watch the cooks prepare the food and ask them any questions. I felt safe with his knowledge of the people Sam knows the area so well that he would spot animals in the jungle that I had missed even though I had been resting in the location without noticing them. Himalayan Lungurs on 3 occasions, ox, buffalo, it was amazing. Sam is so positive and joyful to be around. He is the best guide and he gets my highest endorsement and recommendation.”

“Above and Beyond Trekking fits its name very well. I felt completely taken care of during my trek. Sam, the owner of the company goes the extra mile to ensure that his clients are satisfied with their trek. I had been anxious about finding a good guide upon arriving in Nepal. Above and Beyond Trekking was recommended by a friend. I am happy to say that this is a fantastic company. All details were taken care of before I arrived. My guide was flexible and made adjustments to our itinerary as needed. The experience itself was wonderful. There is so much extraordinary beauty in Nepal. I would highly recommend Above and Beyond Trekking to anyone planning to trek in Nepal.”
