The Everest Three Passes Trek is the ultimate Himalayan adventure, combining stunning landscapes, cultural immersion, and a challenging trail through the Everest region. This trek crosses three legendary high passes—Kongma La (5,535m), Cho La (5,420m), and Renjo La (5,360m)—making it one of the most rewarding yet difficult treks in Nepal. Along the trail, trekkers enjoy breathtaking views of Mount Everest, Lhotse, Makalu, Cho Oyu, and surrounding peaks.
With a typical duration of 16–18 days, the Everest Three Passes Trek itinerary is longer than the standard Everest Base Camp trek. The route includes acclimatization days in Namche Bazaar, Dingboche, and Gokyo to adjust to the altitude. Proper acclimatization is crucial, as the trek reaches over 5,000 meters several times. The trek begins with a scenic flight to Lukla, the starting point of many Everest region treks, and then follows rugged trails through Sherpa villages, rhododendron forests, and alpine valleys.
Accommodation during this high-altitude journey is in traditional teahouses, which offer simple rooms and hearty meals. While facilities are basic, they provide warmth, Sherpa hospitality, and a chance for cultural exchange. The total cost of the package varies based on the duration and services included, such as experienced local guides, porters, meals, and permits.
Highlights of the trek include visiting Everest Base Camp, exploring the pristine Gokyo Lakes, climbing Gokyo Ri for panoramic views, crossing dramatic glaciers, and experiencing the lesser-visited valleys of the Khumbu. The route map covers a complete circuit of the Everest region, ensuring a more comprehensive experience compared to other trekking itineraries. Each section of the journey presents unique challenges and rewards, making it ideal for those who want to go beyond the usual trekking trails.
The difficulty of this circuit is considered strenuous due to its length, altitude, and the technical nature of the passes. However, with proper preparation and guidance, it is achievable for seasoned trekkers and adventurous beginners alike. A flexible itinerary with enough rest days ensures safety and comfort while tackling the demanding terrain.
This trip is more than a trail—it’s a once-in-a-lifetime experience that blends adventure, culture, and stunning Himalayan scenery. Whether you are drawn to the challenge of crossing three passes, the spiritual energy of ancient monasteries, or the rewards of visiting Gokyo Lakes and Everest Base Camp, this trek offers everything a high-altitude adventure should.

“The Everest Base Camp trek was an experience of a lifetime! And a knowledgeable guide like Sam was a definite plus. We learned so much about the Nepali culture. He took extra time to answer our questions and explain customs of the wonderful local people. All details were well worked out and logistics went smoothly. Sam was kind and gentle but also made the call when needed to get a horse for me to finish the last leg of the journey”

“Sam is possibly the best trekking guide in Nepal if not the world. Guide, porter, medic, comidian, singer he does it all! Sam is very friendly and so easy to talk too. I found it very easy to bring up any issues I had (not that I had many) which helped to make the trekking experience the best it could possibly be. Sam is very knowledgeable about the mountains and the local culture and thought us so much. Sam also chooses the best local porters. Very friendly and very helpful. Couldn't have asked for any better. I couldn't recommend above and beyond trekking more highly”
