The Renjo La Pass Trek is one of the most scenic trekking adventures in Nepal's Everest region, offering spectacular Himalayan views, authentic Sherpa culture, and a quieter alternative to the classic Everest Base Camp Trek. This remarkable journey crosses the high-altitude Renjo La Pass (5,360m), one of the three famous Everest high passes, and rewards trekkers with breathtaking panoramas of Mount Everest, Lhotse, Makalu, Cho Oyu, and the stunning Gokyo Valley landscapes of the Himalayas.
The standard Renjo La Pass Trek itinerary takes approximately 11 days from Kathmandu, including round-trip flights to Lukla and carefully planned acclimatization. The trek follows the traditional Everest trail through Phakding and Namche Bazaar before heading toward the beautiful Gokyo Valley, known for its turquoise glacial lakes, dramatic mountain scenery, and peaceful trekking routes.
A major highlight of the trek is crossing Renjo La Pass (5,360m), which offers one of the finest viewpoints in the Khumbu region. From the summit, trekkers enjoy panoramic views of Everest (8,848.86m), Lhotse (8,516m), Makalu (8,485m), Cho Oyu (8,188m), and countless snow-capped Himalayan peaks. The route also includes visits to the famous Gokyo Lakes and an ascent of Gokyo Ri (5,357m), widely regarded as one of the best viewpoints in Nepal.
The Renjo La Pass Trek difficulty is generally considered moderate to strenuous due to the high altitude, steep ascents, and challenging pass crossing. Trekkers typically walk 5–7 hours per day on mountain trails, rocky paths, and glacial terrain. Good physical fitness and proper acclimatization are recommended to ensure a safe and enjoyable trekking experience.
Accommodation during the trek is provided in traditional teahouses located in Sherpa villages throughout the Khumbu region. Most trekking packages include experienced licensed guides, porters, domestic flights, permits, teahouse accommodation, and meals during the trek, providing a well-organized and comfortable Himalayan adventure.
The best time to undertake the Renjo La Pass Trek is during the spring (March to May) and autumn (September to November) seasons when weather conditions are stable, mountain views are crystal clear, and trail conditions are ideal for high-altitude trekking.
Combining the stunning Gokyo Lakes, the spectacular Renjo La Pass, and some of the best mountain views in the Everest region, the Renjo La Pass Trek is an excellent choice for trekkers seeking a less crowded yet rewarding Himalayan adventure in Nepal.

“The Everest Base Camp trek was an experience of a lifetime! And a knowledgeable guide like Sam was a definite plus. We learned so much about the Nepali culture. He took extra time to answer our questions and explain customs of the wonderful local people. All details were well worked out and logistics went smoothly. Sam was kind and gentle but also made the call when needed to get a horse for me to finish the last leg of the journey”

“Sam is possibly the best trekking guide in Nepal if not the world. Guide, porter, medic, comidian, singer he does it all! Sam is very friendly and so easy to talk too. I found it very easy to bring up any issues I had (not that I had many) which helped to make the trekking experience the best it could possibly be. Sam is very knowledgeable about the mountains and the local culture and thought us so much. Sam also chooses the best local porters. Very friendly and very helpful. Couldn't have asked for any better. I couldn't recommend above and beyond trekking more highly”
