The Renjo La Pass trek is one of the most scenic and rewarding trekking routes in Nepal’s Everest region, designed for the fit explorer seeking a quieter, off-the-beaten-path alternative to the classic Everest Base Camp trail. This 11-day Renjo La Pass trek itinerary from Kathmandu leads you through the heart of Sagarmatha National Park, combining high-altitude adventure, glacial beauty, and rich Sherpa culture. The Renjo La Pass trek's starting point is in Lukla (2,845m) after a scenic flight from Kathmandu, where the trail strikes out into sections of the Khumbu region.
The Gokyo Valley is spectacular and home to the sacred, glacier-fed Gokyo Lakes (4,700m–5,000m). A major part of this trek is the sunrise climb to Gokyo Ri (5,357m). From this rocky summit, you are rewarded with a staggering Himalayan panorama that includes the massive Ngozumpa Glacier—the longest in Nepal—stretching out below like a frozen sea. The views on the Renjo La Pass trek from this vantage point feature an unobstructed lineup of giants: Mount Everest (8,848.86m), Lhotse (8,516m), and Makalu (8,485m) towering over the turquoise Gokyo waters.
The thrill continues as you tackle the Renjo La pass trail, a steady climb to the summit at 5,360m. While the Renjo La pass difficulty is rated moderate to hard, the view is legendary. From the top of the pass, the perspective is offering what many call the best view in the Khumbu. You’ll stand face-to-face with the west face of Everest and the massive peak of Cho Oyu (8,188m) on the Tibetan border. These Renjo La Pass trek highlights include a dramatic descent into the remote alpine terrain of the Thame Valley, passing through ancient settlements and high-altitude grazing lands.
Successfully conquering this trek requires steady pacing and an expert Renjo La Pass trek guide. Throughout the trek, you will stay in comfortable teahouses on the Renjo La Pass trek that provide hearty meals and warm rooms. To ensure maximum visibility of these world-class peaks, the Renjo La Pass trek best time is during March to May or September to November. Above & Beyond Trekking offers the Renjo La Pass trek cost reasonably, providing a safe, expert-led journey for those ready to immerse themselves in Nepal’s Himalayan wilderness experience.
The Renjo La Pass trek is the ultimate high-altitude mission, offering a rugged, off-the-beaten-path journey through the heart of the Himalayas. By choosing this route, you directly support the local Sherpa people and village schools in the remote Thame and Gokyo valleys. Conquering the Renjo La Pass (5,360m) and the Gokyo Ri (5,357m) summit rewards you with a breathtaking 360-degree view, placing you face-to-face with the world’s highest peaks: Mount Everest, Lhotse, Makalu, and Cho Oyu. You will witness the emerald-green Gokyo Lakes and the massive Ngozumpa Glacier, far from the crowded mainstream trails. This wilderness trek is best in the spring for vibrant alpine life or in the autumn for the sharpest, crystal-clear mountain views.

“The Everest Base Camp trek was an experience of a lifetime! And a knowledgeable guide like Sam was a definite plus. We learned so much about the Nepali culture. He took extra time to answer our questions and explain customs of the wonderful local people. All details were well worked out and logistics went smoothly. Sam was kind and gentle but also made the call when needed to get a horse for me to finish the last leg of the journey”

“Sam is possibly the best trekking guide in Nepal if not the world. Guide, porter, medic, comidian, singer he does it all! Sam is very friendly and so easy to talk too. I found it very easy to bring up any issues I had (not that I had many) which helped to make the trekking experience the best it could possibly be. Sam is very knowledgeable about the mountains and the local culture and thought us so much. Sam also chooses the best local porters. Very friendly and very helpful. Couldn't have asked for any better. I couldn't recommend above and beyond trekking more highly”
