The Langtang Valley Trek via Sherpagaun offers one of Nepal’s most scenic and culturally immersive Himalayan adventures, combining breathtaking landscapes, rich traditions, and accessible routes just a few hours north of Kathmandu. Ideal for those seeking a less-crowded alternative to Everest or Annapurna, this trek takes you deep into the Langtang Himalayas, home to snow-capped peaks, lush forests, and vibrant mountain communities.
Known for its serene trails and warm hospitality, the Langtang Valley Trek is perfect for travelers looking to experience the beauty of the Himalayas without the crowds. You’ll hike through Langtang National Park, where you might spot red pandas, Himalayan black bears, and rare bird species, and visit iconic sites like Kyanjin Gompa monastery and the traditional Yak Cheese Factory.
The trek begins from Syabrubesi, the main starting point, which is easily reachable from Kathmandu by private jeep or tourist bus. The scenic drive from Kathmandu to Syabrubesi takes approximately 6–7 hours. Along the trail, you can visit the revered Kyanjin Gompa monastery, hike to high-altitude viewpoints like Kyanjin Ri or Tsergo Ri for panoramic Himalayan views, and rest in traditional teahouses that provide food and accommodation.
Reaching a maximum altitude of 3,900 meters (12,792 feet) at Kyanjin Gompa, the Langtang Region Trek is moderately challenging but highly rewarding. With a typical duration of 7 to 10 days, the Langtang Valley trek itinerary offers a balanced experience of culture, nature, and adventure. It is also one of the most affordable treks in Nepal, with a lower overall Langtang trek cost compared to more remote Himalayan expeditions. This makes it an ideal short Himalayan trek from Kathmandu, passing through charming villages, scenic rivers, and beautiful yak pastures
Highlights of the journey include breathtaking views of Langtang Lirung, Dorje Lakpa, and Ganesh Himal, along with glaciers, yak pastures, and the famous Yak Cheese Factory. Meeting the Tamang ethnic group and experiencing their unique traditions makes the trek culturally enriching. With its mix of landscapes, people, traditional villages, and authentic Himalayan hospitality, the Langtang Trek remains one of Nepal’s most beautiful and underrated trekking experiences.

“Just got back from the Langtang valley trek with Sam. The trek was amazing, a bit hard in places but the views more than made up for it. We saw (and went up) the mountains, saw Yak and monkeys, and stayed in some homestay type tea houses. The organisation was faultless and everything went very smoothly. Sam was an enthusiastic and experienced guide, who adjusted the pace and rests for the day to ability. He speaks English very well and would often translate for us, knew some great places to stay and helped with experiencing local food and culture. The porter Sanka, walked with us, and was always ready to lend a hand when needed. Between Sam and Sanka we felt very safe and well cared for, we only had to worry about the walking and enjoying the scenery!”

“Cannot recommend Above and Beyond trekking and Sam enough! We had a really wonderful time. Sam was very kind and attentive and we felt 100% safe with his judgement at all times. Sam organised a wonderful trip and was able to cater for our trip with two friends of very different walking experience. We both thoroughly enjoyed ourselves. Sam also helped us to experience Nepali culture first hand, we stayed at many small family run tea houses and were able to feel part of the family, Sam was very good at inviting us into the kitchens to watch food being prepared and explained everything that was going on. We felt really included at every step of the way. Sam is a very fair guide and person and treats his porter and staff very well. Would definitely use him again. A wonderful company!”
